About Lauren

Lauren joined CBK in January of 2021. Prior to CBK, Lauren served as an Asylum Officer and then Training Officer for nearly eighteen years with the Newark Asylum Office of USCIS. Lauren holds a B.A. in History from Rutgers University and an M.A. in Education from Columbia University’s Teachers College. Her essay, “The Ground I Stand On,” appears in an edited volume of essays in the book, On Second Thought, Learned Women Reflect on Profession, Community, and Purpose (2017, University of Utah Press).  In this essay, Lauren explores the intersection of politics, economics, culture, and the weight of history and memory on immigrants as individuals, families, and communities. In the first iteration of her professional self, Lauren worked for over ten years as a Paralegal, specializing in employment-based immigrant and nonimmigrant visa petitions.
