The presidential election has jolted campuses with speculation and concern about undocumented community members and other issues impacting international populations. Significant attention has been directed at how the new administration will handle the nearly 750,000 young people who have been approved for President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. More broadly, calls for “sanctuary campuses” have been made. College presidents and students have circulated statements and petitions. This article highlights key immigration issues as an aid in framing discussion and assessment by campus leaders, and offers information to assist in situational response, policy making, and advocacy.
