A TN Visa is available to citizens of Canada and Mexico who have an offer of temporary employment in the U.S. for a position that is on the list that was negotiated as part of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Detailed information about the TN Visa can be found on the U.S. Department of State website.
The TN Visa requirements are slightly different for citizens of either country. Canadian workers may apply at a port of entry to the U.S. and are not required to obtain a visa stamp at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Mexican workers must file the appropriate forms and documents with a U.S. Embassy or Consulate prior to entering the U.S. in TN status.
Documents required for both Canadian and Mexican workers include:
- Detailed letter from employer (see instructions on U.S. Department of State website)
- Proof of professional qualifications (licenses, diplomas)
- Valid passport
